We are aware of only a few previous studies on this topic

类似研究不多 We are aware of only a few previous studies on this topic.

For example, Griffith (2019) showed an association between workplace sexual harassment and suicide  attempts in the US,27 and Jin et al (2018) showed an association with self-harm in Taiwan.28 However, both of these studies included military personnel only, used a cross sectional design, and studied only suicide attempts and not suicide. The cross sectional design means that their results may have been influenced by recall bias and common method bias.

In this study, we instead used a prospective design with exposure assessed by questionnaire but suicide and suicide attempts ascertained from administrative registers. This excludes dependent recall bias and reduces the risk of common method variance. The study is also based on a large sample representative of different
sectors and occupations in Sweden, with much greater power than many previous studies on the topic.

There are only three studies that we are aware of that have explored cyberbullying experiences of students across the United States over time.
